Manchester United was knocked out of the Champions League after a shock 2-1 defeat to Sevilla at Old Trafford and supporters took to social media to tear into Paul Pogba.
The Frenchman started the game on the bench but entered the pitch on the hour mark for Marouane Fellaini when the tie was still 0-0 on aggregate. However, Ben Yedder scored in the 74th minute, two minutes after coming on with a low shot from 12 meters and then sent in a header off a corner that United goalkeeper David De Gea could only parry into his own net in the 78th. Romelu Lukaku lashed home from close range with seven minutes remaining, but it proved to be merely a consolation.
Supporters were not in a forgiving mood after the game, slamming the midfielder for costing United the tie.
"Paul Pogba needs to be sold...he simply not good enough. Overrated...Chris Smalling is a championship level player...and don't even get me started on Mourinho. Shocking. Heads need to roll at end of the season".
"United chasing goals and Pogba is walking around the pitch. Looks so disinterested. The shocking attitude".
"Pogba’s attitude stinks. It really stinks !!! He’s showing no passion or desire. He’s sulking for whatever reason. It’s obvious to see. If he doesn’t want to be at United sell him in the summer. Sanchez at least was trying hard even though he didn’t play that well".
United exit the competition along with Tottenham, but Premier League leaders Manchester City and Liverpool progressed to Friday's quarter-final draw. Chelsea can join them if they beat Barcelona on Wednesday.
