Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that Alexis Sanchez won’t be allowed to leave the club if a replacement is not brought in.
Manchester clubs are battling to land Sanchez who has just few months remaining on his current deal and by the look of things, he will not pen an extension. City continues to lead the chase for Sanchez and has been tipped to make a £25m move, while United have also now joined the race. City had been willing to wait until the end of the season to sign Sanchez on a free transfer and Wenger has indicated that is possible, should Arsenal fail to replace him.
During Friday’s press conference ahead of Sunday’s clash with Bournemouth, Wenger was asked if Sanchez will stay if Arsenal fails to find a replacement, he said, - You sum it up very well. Do we find exactly the same player? Certainly not. He is an exceptional player and if that happens, we must find a different balance in the team. I don't regret it. If you cannot give the players what they want, they won't sign a new deal.
The Frenchman also refused to comment on United's reported interest, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan tipped to be offered to the Gunners. Despite the links to Malcom, Wenger insisted the Gunners were "not on the case" at the moment, although that could well change.
