Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud is officially the Premier League’s best super sub, as he blasted the Gunners to victory last night with his late appearance.
The Frenchman had to wait until the 67th minute before joining the game, however was able to make a late impact securing victory on the night with a 85th minute goal.
Having been dropped in favour of Chilean international Alexis Sanchez for much of last season, Giroud continues to make a strong case that he can be an integral part to Arsenal’s title challenge this season.
The Arsenal striker now stands as the Premier League’s top scoring sub since the beginning of the 2016/16 season, ahead Chelsea’s clinical super sub Michy Batshuayi, who is likely to receive more game time this term.
Premier League Goals as sub since 2016/17
Olivier Giroud: 7
Michy Batshuayi: 4
Heung-min Son: 3
Oumar Niasse: 3
Fernando Llorente: 3
Enner Valencia: 3
-It’s a nice stat but I prefer to be on the pitch, Giroud, who only played 1209 minutes of Premier League football last season, told Sky Sports.
Giroud now joins a talented pool of elite strikers with relation to his goals per minute ratio.
Only Harry Kane and Sergio Aguero have a better goal to minute ratio.
